A daily dose of luxury - Teddy Edward Clothing
‘Understated luxury. Totally, unapologetically British.’
As summer seems to have packed up for good this year, our thoughts have increasingly been turning towards autumn and the lovely new shopping opportunities this brings. One of the most exciting brands we’ve come across is Teddy Edward, a fantastic British clothing brand that’s fast gaining a reputation for providing those wardrobe essentials that are so often hard to find. Tapping into an increasing demand for well-made, quality clothes and a move away from the ‘fast fashion’ approach we’ve seen in recent years, Teddy Edward is proud to be a champion of our outstanding British design and manufacturing capabilities. We met Teddy Edward’s founder, Stephen Reeds, and he gave us an insight into the world of Teddy Edward and what it can offer your wardrobe.
Stephen’s grandfather, a dashing war hero and the namesake of the brand, inspired him to fulfil a lifelong ambition to create a range of clothing that aspires to celebrate great British design and attention to detail whilst also being wearable and built to last – something that we’ve found increasingly difficult to find in our perennial hunt for wardrobe staples. While Teddy Edward has plenty to offer the male of the species, we asked Stephen to talk us through some of the ladies collection, in particular the gorgeously flattering short sleeved grandad neckline t-shirt, as well as the unique moleskin jeans, which we predict will be a game changer.
We can’t be the only ones that struggle to find a well fitted, quality white t-shirt to have for those casual days, and Teddy Edward has thoughtfully provided the answer with the feminine look of its Atherstone granddad collar t-shirt. Made in Buckinghamshire and taking its inspiration from shirts commonly found on the hunting field, the t-shirt offers a customisable look through the use of the 6 button placket at the front, which also adds some substance to an area of the shirt that can often be rather too see-through. The more fitted shape of the t-shirt is a welcome respite from the looser, boxier styles that have flooded the market in recent years, and, as we look towards those chillier autumn days we love that the cut allows for easier, more flattering layered looks.
Moving from one wardrobe staple to another we now look to what Teddy Edward can offer us for our lower half. While moleskin jeans are not unique among country clothing brands, we were amazed at the fabric Teddy Edward uses for its Cissie jeans, which combines a lovely soft feel with the bit of stretch that makes jeans so much more comfortable to wear. Teddy Edward is a huge champion of British manufacturers and the idea for the jeans came about as a result of a chance conversation at a fabric exhibition between Teddy Edward’s founder Stephen and one of his regular fabric manufacturers. Available in black, white or navy, these jeans give both city and country options to those of us with a leg in both camps and can be monogrammed to add a further touch of individuality. We love how the fabric has enough substance to it to work across all seasons of our variable British weather, and, unlike so many pairs of similar jeans, no girl need worry about whether the white option is see through, which is a real plus in our eyes!
So what’s next for this innovative and quality-focused brand? As well as showcasing the current collection at both Burghley Horse Trials and the Royal Berkshire Show next month, from speaking to Stephen it sounds like we have much to look forward to in the next collection with plenty of new ideas and products. We can’t wait!
